    In Castleisland there is a castle - or rather its ruins - which was built by Geoffrey De Marisco in 1226. It is said to be the biggest and the strongest castle which the Earl of Desmond possessed. Sir Ralph Ufford stormed and plundered the castle and put all its defendants to death.
