  1. Patrick Casey, who was born in Derryngraug, and spent his last years in Mullaghroe was known as the "wheel cracking" because he was the best wheel wright in County Sligo. He was an extraordinary man as a mower, able for two statute acres in a day. It was said that he was as good as a one horse mowing - machine in a meadow. One day a poor widow asked him to mow a meadow of about three roods. When he came to mow the meadow the day was too hot so he sat down on a fence with a neighbouring man until dinner - time. He
