Great national pilgrims through-out the world,
Should come and visit and take a view
Of where grows the Shamrock in majestic grandeur,
On the sod that covers the Great McHugh.
From Slieve an Iarainn in the Co. Leitrim
To Sligo Bay and arund Lough Gill
And to Cruach Pádhraigh where fell the serpents.
A tide of grief every breath doth fill
And deep in mourning for our chief and darling.
We bid a long and curt adieu,
And pray that God may bless his soul forever.
And crown with happiness our Own McHugh.
