  1. I wish to relate to you, all I can gather about the night of the Big Wind 1839.
    It uprooted trees killed cattle and destroyed houses. About a quarter of a mile from my home there were about sixty families left homeless the night of the Big Wind.
    Their mud wall houses were blown away and so they were left to build tents along the side of the road while they mended and thatched the old ones.
