   The Easkey River drains Lough Easkey and flows into the Atlantic Ocean beside the village of Easkey. The story goes that while Saint Patrick was travelling through the County Sligo he crossed the river Easkey at a point near to where it drains Lough Easkey. He put his foot on a salmon slipped and fell into the river. He was very angry then, because his clothes were wet and he said that a salmon would never be caught in that part of the river again. It is remarkable that no salmon was ever caught in this part of the river from that day to this.
