  1. Once upon a time there was a man herding cows for a gentleman in a very lonely place. He had to sleep on a loft over the cattle.
One night he heard great noise underneath. The man looked down unobserved. He saw a crowd of fairies skinning a cow belonging to his master. Next day he went out to the sheds and saw one cow dead. This happened on several occasions.
The man began to think of what he had seen during the night. Then he understood what it was. He put a piece of the last cow in a pot and boiled it. He found that it was manure that the fairies left in the cow's place.
