  1. The people used to get married in shrove long ago. The chief days were Sundays, Tuesdays and Saturdays when they go married. Lent and Advent were forbidden months and Mondays and Fridays were unlucky days. First the parents sent an account to the boys and girls house telling them to meet in some public house in town to make the match and settle the fortune.
Next night they came to the girls house and decided upon what they were going to have for the wedding. Some money used to be given as fortune and cattle and sheep sometimes if the money was not able to be paid. When the marriage was over they stayed in town until night or go in a cart off to some other town and come home at night and have a party. There used to be a lot of porter in the house. The straw boys wore straw hats and masks and white clothes. They used to have sticks too.
