If you buy from them they give you their blessing, and if you don't buy from them or don't give them alms they curse you.
    The men come for hay or straw or old rags - the hay or straw for the horses and old rags for the women to make rags or fancy things. And they ask if there are any umbrellas or tins to be mended and they always mend them.
    There are three lots of tramps, the Coffeys, the McCarthys, and the Hurleys. The Coffeys are the most that go around
