  1. A story of the Famine days was told to me by Mrs O'Reilly of Cricken Carrigallen. It was told to her by her mother whose name was Lizzie Kellegher from a town-land called Corronary. It is a very sad story.
    In her day there was a corn-mill in Corronary for grinding corn. One day a small boy came running to the door half starved. In his hands he held three noggins. A noggin was a small wooden vessel made in the shape of a tub and it would hold about three pints. He begged for stirabout and when he got it he mixed it with dandelion leaves which he plucked on his way.
    He eat some of the porridge there and then as he was almost starved with hunger. No sooner had he eaten the food than he dropped dead on the door steps. This was only one of the many deaths from
