The Gormans who live in Carrick-on-Shannon own the cart and they go to all the neighbouring towns such as Longford, Mohill, Elphin, and Ballinamore to sell their wares.An old man called Andy McWeeney used to go around with an ass and creels selling laces and thread. He lived in a mud wall cabin at the end of Antfield road. On Hansel Monday it is considered unlucky to give away money but it is lucky to get it.Peddlers still come around from house to house in search of rags, feathers and a lot of other things. They were very common in olden times also. The is an old man who comes to our district three times in the year selling rosary beads, laces, shaving sticks and other things. His name is Johnny Donnell.
