  1. Drownings:
    Guard Conneelly, William Mc Nutt and Paddy Rooney members of the Carrick-on-Shannon Rowing Club were out practising late one evening on the Shannon. The boat was not in good repair and when they were about a half mile from the boat-house, the boat became water-logged. Three victims above mentioned, jumping into the water, tried to swim to the quays. The guard, who had wond many medals for swimming and life-saving, when nearing the bank, found that his two companions were in difficulty, went back to rescue
