    they had but little regard for the Irish. Every child had a block around his neck. For every word of Irish spoken there would be a mark put on the block and in the evening the child would get a slap for each word of Irish spoken.
    Before the national schools were established the people were very poor.
    The children used bring roasted potatoes to school and they were called:- Scolairí na fataí rósta.
