  1. On St Brigid's eve the children of the town here go to the country to pull May flowers, which they bring home and sprinkle on the door steps and window sills to keep out the fairies
    They also sprinkle them round byre doors in the country to keep the fairies from taking the butter.
    In Co Sligo the flowers are made into a round wreath and put on a long stick which is stuck into a hedge near the door of the house.
