- Burns and scalds are cure in district by being touched with the tongue of a person, if a lizard had been applied to the tongue. Agnes Foley from Lettermore Connemara had the power, and explained that when she was young her mother put a lizard on her tongue. On one occasion in the district she licked the hand of a woman who had been seriously scalded with soup, and no blister came on it, and all pain departed.Mary Higgins, Ryehill
