- (continued from previous page)Birdlime, which is used for catching birds is made by cutting the bark of the holly. It is chopped up and put down to boil in a saucepan. When it is boiled the water is strained out of it. It is pounded up and put into bosces and kept airtight for a few weeks. Then you cut a small twig and well clean it, and cover it with birdlime. Then you cut a split in the thick end of it to hang it on to another branch. Next you hang a cage with a bird in it near by and he will call the others. They will perch on the twig and get caught.
