- About fifteen years ago there was a man living in Cashelcraw, whose name was Michael Hirrell. He went out to milk the cows, and as he had no lantern he took a candle. When he had the cows milked, he left the candle in the byre until he should give the cows straw.
But alas when he returned the byre was burning. It was said that the candle caught on a piece of straw, and it burned the house. His cows, and all his hens, and horses were all burned, and that left him without anything.- Informant
