    twelve or one o clock" Next we got potatoes, salt, and some buttermilk for dinner. After this we started back to work again, and at four we had the next meal. We got bread and sweet milk, but as often as not got buttermilk.
    They got the supper pot at six o clock and put it on. At the same time she had the sowens steeping. It took her too long to boil the sowens, so she poured hot water on the oat meal. When this was strained the liquid was used instead of milk, for the porridge at night.
    The people of the house made boxty-bread, and potato-cake.
    To make boxty bread the potatoes were boiled, next bristled [?], and afterwards grated. This was mixed well with flour, and some salt was put in, and wet with goose oil.
