of this rock does not know what wrong the people had done but it must have been very serious for Colmcille prophesied that great harm would come to the people.
Colmcille journeyed on through the Killylastin district and being very hungry he went into a house and asked for food. The woman of the house give him a bowl of porridge and he was so pleased at getting it that he said that the people of that district would never want oat meal. He got the loan of a grey horse to continue his journey and in gratitude for it he promised that there would always be a grey horse in that district. That promise has been fulfilled for Killylastin has never been without a grey horse.
Coming to the rock situated in my grandfather's field Colmcille knelt and prayed that anything harmful he had promised for the people of Killylastin might not come to pass. The people of Killylastin have always believed that Colmcille's prayer was heard and that great harm was averted from them by it.
