    The people of the townland of Deirg “Girk” were chased out of it in a similar manner to those people who lived in Kilcrin. There were seven families living in it at one time.

    Some people say that what is known now as the ruins of the Old Church was once a Franciscan Monastery. It seems the monks were chased and the Monastery was taken and changed into a Protestant Church.
