- The first thing that has to be done is to quarry the stones. When they are quarried they have to be drawn to the kill and broke. When this is done a cart of good black Turf as drawn to it. Then the kill has to be cleaned out and a little pipe has to be made of flags. Some Turf if thrown in. Then some stones are thrown in on top of them. One after another the turf and stones in until it is full. Some coals are got and put in the middle of the turf. When the turf lights up the pipe is closed and it is left for a few days to burn. When all the stones are burned the kill is covered over with bags lest the rain should wet it and it is left for a few days to cool then it is drawn away and used for many purposes. It is used for whitewashing and for manure for the ground. Some people burn lime and sell it for manure for the ground. Lime is very good for the land and the government is selling it to the people very sharply. Any man that buys a ton of lime and sows a rough field and breaks the(continues on next page)
