   A very distredding accident happened on Laugh Rath which is about two miles from Ballintra. It happened in the month of December 1917 when the Laugh was frozen over. Two little boy brothers left their father’s house which is in the townland of Derries to go on a visit to their grandfather who lived in Pullinaranny. These little boys whose names were William Travers and Philip Travers were 10 and 11 years of age respectively. Instead of going directly on their journey they decided to slide on the Lough. One of the boys came on a spring in the lough and the ice broke. He fell into the water and
