  1. One time there was a girl having lovely golden hair living at Bradley. One day the girl washed some clothes and she hung them on some hawthorn trees by the roadside. Now there were other trees near by the house but the girl wouldn’t hang them on those trees because she wanted the neighbours to see her big washing. As she was putting up the clothes on the trees all hairpins fell out of her hair. The girl was frightened and she left the clothes and ran home. When she reached her own house all her hair had fallen out. Her hair never grew again and the old people all said that those trees belonged to the fairies and that they were angry with the girl for hanging her clothes there.
