  1. In Mayo in the eighteenth century, three-quarters of the people were starving.
    Parnell was the leader of the Irish people at that time. At that time the people had no hold to the lands; whether they paid their rents or not the landlords could turn them out of their houses at any time.
    William OBrien Parnell and Michael Davitt got up an organisation and succeeded to get the land for the people
