  1. The people long ago in Gallows Hill had a lot of old sayings. Here are some I heard:-
    1. "A stitch in tie saves nine". This means if you put a stitch in time in a garment when it gets torn, then it will save you the trouble of putting a lot of stitches in it later on when the hole is left to get bigger.
    2. "Too many cooks spoil the broth". If too many people are all engaged on the one work and everyone is trying to do it his own way, it will not be finished properly, for we are told, "Too many cooks spoil the broth".
