    In the good days of old,
    For such we are told,
    Ere aliens thronged her shore,
    There once lived in this place,
    A grand holy race,
    Who kindled the fires of love.
    When the laws of the land,
    With an iron hand
    Crushed the faith of forefathers holy,
    They failed to efface
    The name of this place
    The island of Inisglora

    Now the sun in the west
    Is sinking to nest
    Its rays over the deep waters shining,
    As I strayed on the strand
    Of this once famous land,
    On the beach with sadness repining
    I sighed for the day,
    When the glorious ray,
    Of religion shall shine pure and holy
