    . . . the old man cut off his own son's head with a hatchet and brought and buried him the wood at the back of the house. But when they came back the traveller had gone and that's when they found it was their own son they had killed. Great was their grief but they could not undo what they had done and he is supposed to wander about the wood with no head moaning the most awful sad wailing and at other times the most awful roaring enough to freeze the marrow in your bones.
