The cattle, sheep, pigs and horses are sold the same day. There is a monthly fair held in Foxford on the first Tuesday of every month. These fairs are usually small. Five old fairs are held in Foxford every year, one in May, one in June, one in October, one in November and one in December. These fairs are big but the biggest of them are the May fair and the December fair. A good many jobbers come to the old fairs but not many come to the monthly fairs. There are not many pigs sold at Foxford fairs now because most of the people send their pigs to Castlebar Bacon Factory. The local fairs are held in Granard, Castlepollard and Mostrim every month. They are held in a green. Long ago there were two fairs in Granard called custom fairs. The people that bought cattle in those two fairs had to pay so much to certain men that were collecting it when the fairs were nearly over. The fairs for pigs and horses are not on the same days as they are for cattle. There was an old pig fair held long ago at Float Station. There were pig fairs in Castlepollard on the same days as they were at the Station. When the buyers would be coming to the train the local people would carry down the pigs from Castlepollard that were not sold and the owner of the pigs would pay them. Any of the local people that had pigs to sell would bring them over to the Float and the pigs would be sold.
When they are making the bargains the seller holds out one of his hands and the buyer hits the seller's hand
