There is a well in the village of Knockatubber called "The Blessed Well. It is about one mile and a half from this school the old people say that Saint Patrick came to the well and blessed it. It is said that he baptised people at the well, and that is why it is called "The Blessed Well."
The old people say that water out of a blessed well could not boil, but the water of this well will boil, that is one proof of it most being a blessed well, but just a name for it.

    Page 079

Children always like to hear stories of out Lord. Hear is a story that the old people of Mullagh tell. When the Blessed Virgin and St. Joseph were fleeing to Egypt, from Herod's soldiers, with Jesus, they happened to pass a robber's cave which they went into for a rest. In the cave they met a robber woman. The Blessed Virgin asked her for some water to wash her Baby, as He was tired and weary after a long journey. The robber woman at once got a bath full of nice, fresh water for the Blessed Virgin. She then started to wash Jesus. When she had Him washed, she saw the robber woman crying. When the Blessed Virgin asked her reason for crying she received the following sad answer "I weep to see you bathing your lovely Child and to think that my baby is suffering from that terrible decease leprosy, and cannot be cured". The Blessed Virgin then told her to get the baby and bath him in the same water as she bathed her baby in. The woman did so and at once her baby became as clean as a new pin. Her joy knew no bounds and she thanked the Blessed Virgin with all her heart. The Blessed Virgin ans St. Joseph then continued

This is the story told locally about the Blessed Virgin and St. Joseph and the Infant Jesus. When they were going to Egypt the Blessed Virgin lost the pin of her cloak. This was a great inconvenience as the wind was blowing the cloak off. When the Blessed Virgin came to a forge the smithy made a pin for her. The Blessed Virgin then said the smithys would never be tired after their days work.

of bed one morning (he having being sick for a long time) was covered with sores. The other boy was standing at the door crying and the Blessed Virgin was passing by. She took pity on the little boy and asked him what was the matter with him. He told her. She went in and asked the father for a bath of luke warm water. The Blessed Virgin washed her feet and arms in the bath of water. Then she put the child in the same water and washed him with it. She dried him with her hair because the poor man had nothing to dry him with. He was made clean and he never got sores afterwards

    5) One day St. Joseph the Blessed Virgin and Our Lord were walking along the road. The Blessed Virgin got very tired. She said she would rest herself at the next house. They came to a very big house and St. Joseph went into the house and asked the woman of the house could the Blessed Virgin sit down to rest herself. The woman said "Bring her to me until I see." When she saw how the Blessed Virgin was dressed she would not allow them into the house. She put them away. The next day the woman went to visit some neighbour's house and she was telling the people of the house about the Holy Family. While she was talking she turned into a ball of fire and

When the Blessed Virgin and the Child Jesus were fleeing from Herod one day they came to a house. The Blessed Virgin asked the woman of the house for a drink and the woman gave it to her. Then she started off again and she came to a man who was sowing oats in a field. She told him if Herod's soldiers passed and asked him when did the Blessed Virgin and the Child Jesus pass to say it was when he was sowing the oats. Next morning when the man arose the oats was up in the grass - corn. That day Herod's soldiers passed and they asked him when did the Blessed Virgin and the Child Jesus pass and he said "when I was sowing this oats." Then the soldiers thought that Jesus did not pass for weeks before.
