The giant roared for mercy and told Jack that if he would release him he would give him anything that he would ask for. Jack then let him go and the giant was delighted when his arm was free. Jack told the giant that he would like a rise of wages and the giant had nothing to do only give it to him. Jack then had a right time at the giants' castle for he only worked whenever he liked and the giant had to pay him his wages every Saturday night. Jack during all this time was very good to his mother at home and used to give her more than half of what he was earning from the giant. The matter was that the giant was getting very much afraid of Jack and he began to wonder what would be the

When he was finished eating he went over to the fire and sat down and the giant came over and sait down beside him. Jack had the bag in front of him full up of food. "Begor" said he to the giant "I ate too much" "I see that" said the giant "Hand me over that knife," said Jack to the giant. The giant handed him over the knife and then Jack said that he would show him a trick then. "What kind of a trick will it be?" said the giant. He then put the sword where he got it in the castle and proceeded homewards in the evening with his herds. All things happened as on the previous evening, but at supper there was only the roar of one giant heard. The master now was more surprised than ever at this. "Last night" he said, "there was one giant missing and tonight there are two. Where can they be." "Maybe he is gone to look for the first giant" said the boy carelessly "and he as not yet found him."
Next morning he set out with his herds again and all happened as on the previous days - but the third giant had two heads instead of one and this giant said to the boy that he would not avenge

So they went into the castle & the giant said "if your as good a man as that you'll be able for take as many bowls of soup as me" so Jack was greatly troubled how he'd get to manage to take as many bowls of soup as the giant but he got a sheep skin & put it under his clothes & instead of letting the soup down his throat he let it into the sheep skin & in that way he done away with more bowls of soup than the giant but the giant wasn't able to take any more & he complained about being very heavy & very full but says Jack "I have a way of relieving myself" so he drew out his sword & put it into the bottom of the sheep skin & ripped it up along & let the whole thing out upon the floor & the giant said "Could you

"Begor" says he at last "You are no joke whoever you are." Jack then told him who he was and why he was looking for work and all about himself. The giant then gave him a job but it was more or less through fear of him than anything else. Jack worked away with the giant for two or three months and the longer he stayed in the place the more the giant hated him. Wan day not long after Jack had started working with the giant he was in the stable doing something and the giants great big dog came in and was right behind Jack and Jack didn't see him at all. Jack was doing something with wan of the mangers and he had his back turned to the dog and

I'll go home and do it immediately." The giant thanked the ould witch and then he went home. When he got there he found Jack in the stable and he lying down on the broad of his back having a rest for himself. The giant looked at him for some time and then says he "Have you nothing to do?" I'm doing enough" says Jack "for what I'm getting for it." "Do you want another rise of pay" says he to Jack. "It couldn't do me a bit of harm." says Jack. The giant drew his sword and made a charge at Jack but Jack went back for his walking-stick. He then went towards the giant and they fought a great duel, but after a time Jack got the better of him and laid him out with his walking-stick. But all Jack's troubles weren't over yet. When he had he giant laid out, out comes another big giant with two heads, and saw the other giant lying dead on the ground, and got furious. "you have killed my brother, but by my song you won't kill me." So himself and Jack started to fight and the like of it was never seen in the three

When the giant had wholloped the balk of timber three times thinking of course it was Jack he went away quite satisfied with himself.
The next morning Jack came down to breakfast the very same as if nothing had happened. The giant was surprised you may be sure when he saw Jack alive and well, and he looked at Jack for a long time. Says Jack to him "you seem surprised to see me", "I'm not surprised", says the giant, "but I thought something happened you last night, did you sleep well?", "I did" says Jack "but a rat ran over me bed in the middle of the night and gave me a few swipes of his tail". The giant was greatly surprised when he heard this. So they sat down to breakfast. The giant had

Jack hid until the giant was gone. Jack then went into the princess and she began telling him all about the giant. She said she was on very friendly terms with him and that it was the best way to be and that he likes her the more on account of her being like that and told her all his secrets. He told her that he had nine wives and he kept them all under the hearthstone. Jack told her all about how he came there and how the water dog helped him and all

After a few seconds he laid down the dog on the ground as dead as ever a dog was in all his life. Jack looked at the giant and the giant looked at him. They looked at each other for a long time without speaking and wan of them was just as wicked looking as the other. The giant at last began to approach slowly towards Jack and begor Jack moved slowly moved towards him. "Why did you kill my dog?" said the giant to him and he spoke in a very strange voice "Why did you allow him to bite me and then stand in the door and laugh at me!" said Jack. There wasn't another word spoken on either side. They rushed at each other and they started to fight and I'm telling you that was some fight. They fought like two enraged wild animals and they kept at it for a long time. It was a very fierce battle and wan of them was almost as good as the

The giant to was delighted when he knew that he would be soon getting rid of Jack. The next morning the giant called all the men he had working with him to come up to him. They all came and there were about eight of them in it altogether. "Now" says he I want to get the pump cleaned up and I think that this is a very good day for it." The men all agreed and said that it would want to be lined as well. They all went out to the place where the pump was and the giant then said that Jack was the best workman in the place and that he was surely the best then to clean up the pump and line it with stones. Jack said he didn't care a damn what kind of work they gave him to do; he could do it and said that he had cleaned up pumps before now. So the giant brought out a ladder and put

He beat three or four of 'em and the rest of them all flew for their lives. there was no wan then left with him only the giant and then Jack went for him and started to beat him as fast as ever he could. The giant roared for mercy and Jack stopped and says he to the giant "What will you give me if I spare your life? "I will give you twice as much as I am giving you now." says the giant. "That will do" says Jack, and they went off towards the castle.
Jack remained at the castle for a few months longer and the giant was tormented with him. He did nothing at all only by [?] down all day and eat his meals and he was drawing a regular

the giant. He was so much amazed and so much filled with astonishment and fear of Jack and his friends that he was stuck there rooted to the very ground.
Jack was the first to speak "What is the idea of all these men running away like that?" says he to the giant. The giant found his tongue at last. "I suppose" says he "that they are afraid of you and your companions" "Begor" says Jack "these are quite tame" I yoked them to the plough and they ploughed away for me all the time." The giant began to wonder was Jack a man that could be killed at all, and all the time that he was standing there the two crocadiles were mad to snap at him. When they would get a bit too unruly Jack would give them a kick in the ribs. "Or you know what you will do? says the giant "Bring back

them two animals to the place where you got 'em and I will be very much obliged to you." "Are you sure you don't want them here" says Jack "I am quite certain" says the giant. "Very good" says Jack "I will bring them back" Jack walked off down the field and never stopped until he came to the place where he had been ploughing. He left the two crocadiles out of his hands and told them to go back into the sea. The crocadiles were delighted to get out of his grasp and the moment they were free they ran for their lives. Jack then went back to the giant and then he said that he was hungry and wanted a good dinner. The giant of course had nothing to do but give him whatever he wanted, and Jack said that he didn't think that he would do anymore work for him as it was too dangerous if a fella wouldn't be careful. The giant saw by Jack

The giant was so much taken aback by the sudden appearance of Jack whom he thought that he was surely dead that time didn't know what to say or do, and he was afraid of his life of the boar. "Oh - er" says he and he stuttering "I wanted to bring him home in order to get him shot" "An why would you want to shoot the poor dumb animal?" says Jack. "He is very dangerous sometimes" said the giant. The giant was so much afraid of him that he went in straight for the gun and brought it out and shot the boar dead. "Now" said he to Jack "you can go and bury him" "Begor" said Jack "you can bury him yourself. God knows I've had enough bother

"Begor" says she "he is a problem if ever there was wan I wonder how will we get rid of him anyhow." "Begor" said the giant he is the greatest problem I ever knew anyhow" The witch and the giant were talking for a long time together as to how they would get rid of Jack and they mentioned several ways and none of them would please them. But the best part of it all was going on outside the witch's hut. Jack had noticed the giant going in and out to the old house very often and he wondered what was his idea in doing so. He didn't know that the ould witch lived in there and that was his reason for being a little suspicious. So when the giant went in to the hut on this occasion Jack went down and got around at the back of it and looked in through the

And scarcely had he done so when the ground shook under him with the terrible roaring, and lo! Jack saw tearing down the lawn an enormous, mortial giant, with three heads on him.
"Well," said Jack, "I'm doomed to-day anyhow. God bless us!" But he thought of his little dagger, and took it out of his pocket.
"Ho! Ho! Jack the giant killer", said the giant, "you killed my two brothers and I'll kill you now."
"If you do", says Jack, "you will have to earn it" going for the giant and cutting off wan of his heads with the first blow. The giant fell, and before he recovered Jack cut off another head. The giant begged for mercy and told him he would forgive him for killing his two brothers, and that he would give him the keys of his treasure and a milk-white mare into the bargain.
The giant handed over the keys to Jack and then Jack finished him by cutting off
