There once lived a man in Co. Wexford. His name was Tom O Leary. He was a married man and very poor. The times were bad and he could not get any work. There was a young son born to him which made him still poorer. He was planning ever day to provide for his wife and child and himself. One day he suggeted to his wife that he would go out the country and look for work. She agreed. Next morning he got up very early and he told his wife "don't expect me until you see me". I may have to take (a) up a job for a long or a short period and I may have to travel a long journey. He wished her fare-well and went on the road. All he had in his possession was a good pocket knife which was owned by his father who was dead. He hadn't any use of it as he neither smoked nor drank. But he had a great regard for it on account of its former owner.Janice mckenna
