Fairs are held locally every month. They are held in every small village and town. There is one held in Ballinagh every month and one every month in Cavan also. There is one in Crossdoney four times in the year. However, Cavan is the biggest of the fairs. Sometimes the jobbers go to farmers' houses to buy the cattle. When a man is going to sell an animal, the buyer comes along and asks how much does he want for the beast. Then the man asks for so much and the buyer offers him less. When they are making the bargain, another person interferes and divides the money between them. This is called the splitting of the difference. When the bargain is made and they are satisfied, they hit the other on the hand. Then the man that is selling the beast brings them away and treats them. When the man pays him he gives back luck money, which is call a luck penny. Sometimes two shillings and sometimes a shilling is given. Then he wishes the man good luck of the beast.Jessica Skippon
