Despite his wish to bury him at Teampall Nuadh the people of Castleconnel determined to bury him there. The Lough Gur inhabitants invaded Castleconnel early one morning and took the Castleconnel men by surprise; but a pitched battle followed wherin all kinds of weapons - knives, forks. etc were used, and in which many were wounded. The battle ended with the victory of the "Lough" men ~ "Up Lough" was the cry. The corpse was brought to Teampall Nuadh and interred there. Fearing reprisals, however, the Lough men placed an armed guard around the graveyard for weeks afterwards.
