At Ballycullane Cross, Bulgaden, there grows a hawthorn tree which bears, instead of white thorn during May, beautiful rich red-thorn flowers. An old resident told me a Bishop was hung there in penal times, and that no matter what colour the white-thorn trees round it are, it will always be red, when in full bloom.RhiannonCnoc-samhna (Knocksouna) is a hill on the south of Kilmallock. There is an opening in the side of the hill and a person could enter it. Often, at night-time a hunt in full cry has been heard round about the hill.RhiannonTwo or three men were coming home late at night after visiting a neighbour's house. It was sometime about 12 oclock or so. They all heard, simultaneously, the sound of a hunt coming on behind them. They moved into the dyke to let it pass and they were perfectly clear that it was a hunt in full gallop. They heard the baying of the dogs and the galloping of the horses, but they saw neither rider, nor horse nor dog. They have never been able to explain what happened.Rhiannon
