Hidden Treasure. Once upon a time, two men who were very friendly with one another, lived in Baranigue. One of those men dreamt that gold was concealed near a place called Poll an Ais nearby. He dreamt of it three nights in succession. On the fourth evening he told his friend about it. At midnight both of them went off to dig for the gold. They carried spades, (?) , and pickaxes. They dug until they met a slab. They raised the slab and saw a pot of gold. They raised the pot between them, and were just starting for home, when they saw a fierce bull charging towards them. They ran as fast as they could, but the bull was coming to close on them, and they were obliged to drop the gold near a spot called Fagar an Spairtin. The latter is a spot unaccountably green, situated in the midst of a large area of bleak mountain land which constitute the great part of Baranique and the gold is supposed to be there still. However nobody has courage to dig for it, fearing the anger of its ferocious guardian, the bull. Aitriseoir:- Mrs. Kate Mulvihill Baranique, Ardagh, Co. Limerick. Age 62 yrs.
