Long ago people used not to begin to wear boots until about the age of fourteen years. My mother or father never heard of anyone going without boots or shoes the whole year round except one poor woman who used to go around begging and they never saw a boot, show or a clog on her winter or summer. Some children in this district go barefoot in the summer but you would never see one barefoot in the winter. Water that was used for washing feet is never kept in a house during the night because if it were the "Good People" would come to the house that night. There is only one shoemaker now in the district but there is another about to set up business in Lombardstown. Our present shoemaker's father was a shoemaker but my father does not know whether his grandfather was a shoemaker or not. There were two shoemakers in the district until a few years ago.Stephywalsh
