In the middle of the day the birds were not very troublesome so the boys thought they would have a game of marbles on a cart pass that was up one side of the field. They had not been long (played) playing when a wee fairy came up out of the ditch and asked to be allowed to play. The two boys were so frightened that they ran home screeching The wee fellow, the wee fellow. They were so much frightened that they refused to keep the birds off another day and as long as they lived they would not go near that field after dark. There was a fort in Roddy's Hill. A raised up mound of earth with a deep trench all round. A few bushes grew around the fort. The owner of the field, a man named Cooke, sent his men to stab the bushes. They had been working only a short time when a crowbar was thrown at them and only for the workers got out of the way they would have beenAileen Brennan
