On the top of the mountain on the eastern side of Dirreen there is to be seen the remains of an old grave. The name of the man who was buried here was Diarmuid Donn. It is said that he threw a stone from Knocknaboul where a wild boar bit him, and he told them where ever this stone would fall to make his grave there. This stone fell on the top of Dirreen mountain, and the remains of his grave is still seen there. Every year since his ghost is to be seen in the shape of a white hare,m they used to hunt the hare but they could never catch it, he used to run into a drain near the grave, and the dogs could not get at him. Another day after the men blocked one side of the drain and the hare ran in as usual, but he could not get out, then the dogs killed him. One of the men carried him home to make soup, but he was boiling for three days, and he was so tough that dogs could not eat him, and it is said that he was seen since around the grave.
