A long time ago a man named Pat Sherlock, Cloonloo, Ballymote, Co. Sligo living in the half Parish of Gurteen, was cutting turf on Maghanagh bog which was a short distance from his house. He was not long on the bog until he broke his slane against some thing very hard. He thought it was a stone. He unearthed it but to his great surprise instead of a stone, it was a small wooden box. He opened it and on the top he found a lot of leaves. He threw them out and under-neath he found a lot of gold rings, watches; and chains. He was afraid to take them home. He left them on the bog and went at a good pace home for his dinner. His wife was a tyrant. When he got home he told her the store of the wooden box and what it contained. She would not let him eat his dinner until he got the box ([?]) for her. She took some of them for her self and her daughterAnaithnid
