Once upon a time there lived in this district a married man and his wife. They had one child and he held their affections. One night the fairies took away their beloved child and in its place left an ugly little baby. The man and woman could not believe their eyes when they woke the next morning and saw the baby that was left in place of their beloved. However they thought that if they were good to this baby maybe God might bring back their lost one. They nursed the strange baby as if it was their own but still it never held such a place in their affections as their own baby. Years came and went and still the new baby did not grow or show any signs that it would soon leave the cradle. They nursed the new baby for twenty years in all. At that time it was the custom when a man wanted a new suit he invited the tailor to his house and the tailor stayed in the house while the suit was being made. When the baby was twenty years in the house the man of the house needed a new suit. The tailor came to make it. The man of the house went out into the fields working while the tailor worked indoors. One day when the man of the house was out working his wife asked the tailor would he mind the child while she went to the shop. He agreed and she set off. No sooner was she gone than the baby jumped up out of the cradle and sat on the side of it. He was dressed like a fairy. He took out bagpipes from under the clothes in the cradle and began to play. The Tailor fell asleep while the fairy baby played. As soon as the woman came near the house the fairy baby jumped into the cradle andMichael KillegarElla Dmitrieva
