Mr O Beirne was landlord of Fearglass and Rossmore. He resided in Gamestown and had estates in Fearglass and Drumgowna. His first agent was John Burns who lived in Dumsna and who was looked upon by the people as a tyrant after him came Darley. James Taylor was his Bailiff. He lived in Keshcarrigan and he was not an unkind man. With the exception of one or two families all the people of this locality were evicted and in the summer-time they slept in the open meadows The land League leaders of the time were James Bohan of Gubadorish, Hugh Murry of Gortletteragh, Francis Flynn, James Mc Goldrick and many others. They strongly opposed the landlords and held meetings usually at Gortletteragh chapel, and sometimes in the home of Dan Bolreavys of Annaghmore. Those meetings were held to push forward the claims of the land league. It was in the year 1903 that the Land Purchase Act was passed in England ending at last the suffering of the Irish farmers.Fizzah
