On the eve of this feast a large oat meal cake was made and was used the next day in the following way. During the day rushes were cut from the third field opposite the house. A cross was made out of these rushes which was called "St Bridget's Cross." The youngest girl in the house, went out side the house. Then the door was bolted and the entire family knelt before the altar in the kitchen. The girl out side the door knelt on the threshold and said a prayer to St Bridget while holding the cross.
