Our best known local fair is Ballaghameehan. It is held on the nineteenth of each month. About 73 years ago there was a fair held called Mogue's fair. It was held between the Rossinver cross-road and Garrison. This fair was held yearly. It begun on 2nd February and lasted for one week. It was very largely attended, we are told people came from all over Ireland to it. It was very rough and wild fair, often there was much blood-shed at it. The last two days were spent fighting. Generally people of two different counties fought against each other. The last fight was between the people of Fermanagh and Leitrim. Leitrim won by a cause of much blood-shed. For weeks before the fair commenced the men were preparing black-thorn, ash-plants, and bow-arrows for the coming fight. During the week previous to this fair there were people busy occupied putting up tents along the road for half a mile. Those tents were constructed for the purpose of making sale for various goods. An Dothra BheagKate Bruni
