In olden times people kept festivals. On Hallow'een it was the custom for them to eat nothing all day until night. Then they had a great feast. After that they had nuts and apples. If there were not many people in one house then some neighbours would come in to the other house to have a good night's fun. They would put an apples in a tub of water and see who could have the most bites off it, or they burned nuts. This was on the 31st October. On the 11th November they called it old Halloween. On that day the children stole cabbage from people's gardens. They broke them along the road or them at the peoples doors. Sometimes the people fired shots at them to hunt them fromAlison Jameson
