Moira Molloy. 9th December 1938. Gentle Places;- Long ago the people believed in fairies and that they had special haunts in each locality. It is said that there is a gentle place situated to the north-west of the town of Killybegs. It is in a field belonging to the Mullin's of New Row. In the centre of this field there is a fairy tree about which there are many interesting tales. One day a man was coming down past the field and as he looked at the tree he saw a light. Then he heard singing and sweet music but as he began to walk towards the tree to see what it was the light disappeared and the music and singing ceased and when he reached the tree there was nothing unusual there to be seen and thinking that it was only imagination he went home. Another day afterwards a man was out taking in his cows and as he was passing not far from the tree he saw a similar light and also heard music and singing. And as he went towards the tree to see what it was and this time the light also disappeared and all became quiet as before and going and getting his cows he went home. TheseJoseph McGroarty
