In this district the fairs are held in the same way as long ago. If a man sells a cow or a bullock he has to pay sixpence. This is called toll. It is a mixed fair in Foxford. The cattle, sheep, pigs and horses are sold the same day. There is a monthly fair held in Foxford on the first Tuesday of every month. These fairs are usually small. Five old fairs are held in Foxford every year, one in May, one in June, one in October, one in November and one in December. These fairs are big but the biggest of them are the May fair and the December fair. A good many jobbers come to the old fairs but not many come to the monthly fairs. There are not many pigs sold at Foxford fairs now because most of the people send their pigs to Castlebar Bacon Factory. If it is a jobber that buys he has a mark of his own but if it is a country man that buys he only rubs dirt on her backBarbara HillersMaggie Weaver
