There were many wooden bridges over rivers long ago. Now we can only see some some bars of iron where they were. There was a wooden bridge straight in front of Mr. M. Rogers house Palmerstown, Killala. There was another bridge across Palmerstown River down form Mr. Booyles, LonRoe, Killala, where two girls from Killala were milking drowned. They were coming from Killala for milk to some house in LonRoe. One of them fell in and the other tried to save her. The flood was so strong that it swept both of them away.
