In olden times there were days looked upon as being lucky and unlucky. Saturday was supposed to be an unlucky day of the week. People used to change from one house to another on Friday always. It was looked upon as a lucky day. All people used to start ploughing and setting potatoes on Friday. In former times the three last days of March were called the “Riabhóg” days. In olden times people kept cows until they were very old. The old cow used to be so delighted when March would be out, that she used to let three great lowys with joy. Then March borrowed the three first days of April, and killed the old cow. These are called the “Riabhóg” days. People like to have the potatoes set before the cuckoo comes.
