Once upon a time there was a woman in Cloonfinish. One day a beggar-man came to the house. The woman of the house made tea for him. She said that she had no butter and he said "how is it you have no butter and you have so much milk" and he told her to get the churn and to put the milk into it. She did as she was told and when the milk was ready to churn the beggar man wrote something on a piece of paper and nailed it to the churn. Then they began to churn and after abut a half-an-hour they had finished churning and the woman took the real amount of butter out of the churn. The old people say that som people can take butter from others but a charm, and they say never to enter a house when the people of the house are churning, without helping to churn the milk.Sarah Goldberg
