A big hole is dug in the ground and the clay is carted out or else a hole is made in an old sand-pit. It is made a round shape and built up with stones on the inside. There is a gullet left in the side to let air in. About one-forth of the lime-kiln is filled with very dry turf, then a layer of broken lime-stone is put on about one foot thick then more broken limestone, and last of all a layer of scraws from a bog and it is set on fire then. As the turf is burned more is put on and it is kept continually burning. After about two days it is burned or let die out. It is then left to slacken.Patrick CallahanKatie McCormick
