The old people had a lots of game, which they practise, such as bowling and hurling, and playing marbles. Bowling was played by pitching an iron ball. Who ever pitched it the farthest was supposed to be the best bowler. Playing marbles was supposed to be the best school game. A wake night long ago was a night to be remembered for weeks afterwards, because there were all sorts of games and amusements practised to pass the night. A game called "Ag diol an coirce" was a very popular game that was practised at wakes. "Súgán" was another game they pracitised during that night. This game was played by gathering in a ring, and having one person in the centre. This crowd passed a ball around, under their feet, and if the man in the centre failed to catch it, he would get a blow of the "Súgán" across the neck for every time he failed to catch it. A blow of this Súgán was very severe, as the top of it was a knot of leather. A box of clay pipes was distributed at every wake. These pipes were called "Lord have Merceys" or the "forty-threes." A box of rolled tobacco was also given out to the people. The old people of long ago wereJayson Wood
